Frangka

CHARACTER PROFILE

Frangka

The Shadowcatcher. Ih-kay-rahhhh. A Ghothar.

Frangka is a military strategist of extraordinary ability. She enters Book Two as a figure of strategic brilliance — anticipating the Cleargh ambush at Losander Forest before anyone else can see it, forcing a truce with enemies when the Thartans appear, doing what others cannot. She is calm where others panic. She is several steps ahead.

She is also a Ghothar. What this means in full is deliberately withheld from the reader. What it means in practice: the Thartans know her. They call her Ih-kay-rahhhh. They call her the Shadowcatcher. When a Thartan leader speaks that name at Tharwind Canyon, it triggers traumatic memories in her that she has never spoken of.

She rides out alone to face an army. The army parts for her. The combined Vahd and Cleargh forces pass safely through the canyon — because of her, and because of what she is. No explanation is offered. None needs to be.

Frangka’s full history may never be revealed. That is an authorial choice. The audience sees the effect without the cause — which is, in many ways, exactly right for a character like her.
